About Ericka

Facing the mirror, Maritime Museum, Piran, Slovenia

I’m a photographer, writer, visual artist, and in my own way, explorer. I document street life, festival arts, material culture and vernacular expression, and when possible, the power and fragility of the natural world. Both percussionists and primatologists quicken my pulse.

My working life includes stints at design firms, ad agencies, publishers, newspapers and travel companies.

Born in Manhattan, I triangulated to three states, and three starter houses: Siege Acres in Oakland California, Grapefruit Gulch in South Florida, and Ferry Folly in Staten Island, New York: each a sanctuary for strays, informal museum of collected arts, and a basecamp for adventures.

My essays and photographs have appeared in Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel, Africa Geographic, Bark, Popular Photography, Los Angeles Times, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale Magazine, Toronto StarBaltimore Sun, and travel blogs GoNomad and Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection.

My work has shown with the Society of Dimensional Illustrators (Bronze Award), A Community of Many Voices/Arab Americans in New York City, Museum of the City of New York, Interior Lives, National Arts Club, New York, Small Wonders, Atlantic Gallery, New York, Primarily Color, Atlantic Gallery, New York, and Staten Island Unlimited, Alice Austen House, Staten Island, New York.

I've volunteered in animal sanctuaries, and as an event photographer for Open House New York, City Reliquary, Travel Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi.
